Charge to the Scholarship Committee
Charge:
The Committee selects recipients for scholarships, as designated by the Board, to the College
Business Management Institute (CBMI) and to the SACUBO Fall Workshop. The purpose of these
scholarships is to promote professional development for individuals who need to improve or develop
their capabilities in higher education business management whose institutions indicate that they
cannot afford these programs without assistance.
Membership:
- Members are generally appointed to three-year staggered terms by the First Vice President prior
to taking office as President.
- Immediate self-succession of regular members normally is not permitted except in the case of an
individual who completes an unexpired term and is appointed to serve an ensuing full term. (SACUBO

Meetings:
- The work of the committee is accomplished by mail, fax, e-mail and telephone.
Linkages:
- The Editor of the SACUBO Ledger should be contacted to determine submission deadlines for the
various editions of the SACUBO Ledger.
- The Treasurer must be consulted regarding payment details.
- The CBMI Coordinator should be contacted to determine registration amount at CBMI and should be
informed regarding CBMI scholarship recipients.
- The Second Vice President should be contacted to determine registration amounts at the SACUBO
Fall Workshop and should be informed regarding Fall Workshop scholarship recipients.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- The Chair will prepare a recommendation to the Board for the number of scholarships for both
CBMI and the SACUBO Fall Workshop, and the amount of each scholarship, prior to the Annual Meeting
each year. The recommendation will be provided to the Second Vice President who will present the
recommendation to the Board at the Board meeting held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting.
- The Second Vice President will present the Chair’s recommendations to the Board and will convey
the Board’s action(s) to the Chair after action is taken. Should the Chair be present at the Annual
Meeting site at the time of the Board meeting, the Chair can coordinate with the Second Vice
President to present the recommendations.
- Coordinate publicity details with the SACUBO Ledger editor, submitting copy for the application
form to be used, and consider other publicity media. A copy of the applicable scholarship
application(s) should be provided to the Editor of the SACUBO Ledger for publication well in
advance of the relevant workshop.
- Provide a copy of the applicable scholarship application form to the Second Vice President to
be included in the SACUBO Fall Workshop promotional materials.
- Provide a copy of the applicable scholarship application form to the CBMI Coordinator to be
included in CBMI promotional materials.
- Clarify criteria for selection, with sensitivity to the value of the specific professional
development program for each applicant, the need of each applicant, and the fair representation of
the diversity of SACUBO membership regarding gender, ethnic background, institutional type and
geographic dispersion.
- Arrange for payment by the Treasurer to the recipient’s institution and for announcement and
award of the scholarships to the individuals.
